SUPERANNUATION FUNDS

Public Offer Funds
A public offer fund may be suitable for people with smaller account balances, those who don’t wish to be actively involved with the management of their superannuation investments, and those who are not seeking broad investment flexibility.

Public Sector Superannuation Fund
Public sector funds are funds that have been established by or under a Commonwealth or State Act of Parliament; they are generally only available to members who are employed by the relevant Government body sponsoring the fund.

Employer-Sponsored Superannuation Fund
An employer-sponsored fund is a superannuation fund generally restricted to employees of the sponsoring employer and offer no, or very limited, investment choice. This may be particularly attractive to people who require life insurance cover but who are suffering from medical conditions that may otherwise preclude them from accessing cover.

Industry Fund
Industry funds were established when compulsory superannuation through the industrial award was introduced. These funds may restrict membership to members of particular industries and may offer only limited investment choice.

Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs)
RSAs are ""capital guaranteed"" accounts generally offered by banks which will accept rolled over superannuation benefits along with contributions. The accounts are fully portable, owned and controlled by the member. RSAs are simple, low cost, low risk products especially suited to those with small amounts of superannuation, such as itinerant and casual workers, those who want to combine several small superannuation accounts or those nearing retirement and wishing to minimise risk.
